Overview of the celebration
Imprints of 110 years
Hue Water Plant was born 110 years ago in parallel with the birth of Hue City and is one of the first three water plants in our country with a capacity of 2,500 m3/day.
After the city was completely liberated, officials, employees and workers of the plant focused on overcoming the consequences of the wars, restoring production, renovating the old plant, and building a new plant. And in just 15 years, by 1990, the company´s water output increased from 1.8 to 5 million m3/year to provide clean water to 45% of the urban population and serve industrial production, hospitals, schools, etc.
In 1992, Hue Water Enterprise was renamed Thua Thien Hue Water Supply and Sewerage Company. This was a turning point creating opportunities for the company´s aspirations to be fluttered through promoting internal resources and utilizing all resources to create a leap forward in both quality and quantity.
Up to now, HueWACO have owned 27 water treatment plants with a total capacity of 200,000 m3/day. The production of commercial water increased rapidly in 2019 and is expected to reach 52 million m3, an increase of 10.4 times compared to 1990 and 30 times higher than the time after the liberation of Hue. The water distribution system has expanded from the inner city to remote towns and areas and across the coastal lagoons to the mountains with 4,650 km of pipelines stretching through 141/152 wards and communes. The rate of people using clean water also increased rapidly. If in 1999, it was 20.7%, then by 2008 it was 52% and now it is 89%. This effort is in line with the orientation of the Central Government and the determination of the Province to soon turn Thua Thien Hue into a central heritage city in the next few years.
DEVIWAS senior leadership representatives attended the ceremony
Due to the good implementation of the bidding and project management, HueWACO did not have to use the backup fund of US $ 3,2 million. Instead, this fund was used to invest an additional 22 km of D225-1200 transmission pipelines. The project was highly appreciated by the Government Inspectorate and Ministry of Construction.
According to the Chairman of HueWACO´s Board of Directors, Mr. Truong Cong Nam, clean water not only serves urban areas but also rural, deep-lying, remote areas. Water must not only be safe but must be delicious with guaranteed water security in all situations. Every employee is proud to work in the company and considers benefits of the company as his/her own benefits. That pride is expressed in their learning and mastering knowledge and skills and aspirations for dedication. It is this that promotes the creativity and bold and convincing thoughts of employees. Up to now, the company has got 22 projects winning the provincial prizes and 12 projects winning the Central prizes. Three projects have been recorded in the Vietnam Creative Golden Book while the company’s leader has received the Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister three times.
